Psychological & Psycho-Educational Assessment

Understand. Educate. Support. Strengthen.

Psychological Assessment

The goal of an assessment is to better understand an individual’s strengths and current areas of struggle. A psychological assessment gathers information about a child, youth, or adult through a variety of methods including interviews, standardized tests, rating scales, and observations. The assessment process may help to uncover a diagnosis, but more importantly, it will provide you with a pathway of understanding, a plan for intervention, and recommendations to help each child, youth, or adult succeed.

Psychological & Psycho-Educational Assessments:

  • A mental health assessment gathers information to better understand an individual's current mental health profile including their social, emotional, and behavioural functioning. Mental health assessments involve intake interviews, interviews with the individual, questionnaires, consultations with important individuals in their lives, and a final report including results of the assessment and our recommendations.

  • An ADHD assessment gathers information to better understand an individual's current executive functioning profile as well their overall social, emotional, and behavioural functioning. It may be completed on its own or as part of a mental health or psycho-educational assessment. ADHD assessments involve intake interviews, interviews with the individual, questionnaires, consultations with important individuals in their lives, and a final report including results of the assessment and our recommendations.

  • A psycho-educational assessment involves gathering information to better understand an individual's cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioural functioning. Psycho-educational assessments involve intake interviews, standardized assessments with the student, questionnaires, consultations with important individuals in their lives, as well as a final report including results of the assessment and our recommendations.

  • An Autism assessment is often completed as part of a broader psycho-educational assessment. However, if there are no concerns about learning or academic performance, the academic portion can be omitted. This type of assessment includes all components of a psycho-educational assessment, such as intake interviews, standardized testing, questionnaires, consultations with key individuals, and a comprehensive final report. In addition, it involves gathering a more detailed developmental history, along with autism-specific questionnaires and standardized assessments. The final report will include tailored recommendations to support the individual’s strengths and needs across home, school, and community settings.
