CARE Psychology - Terms of Service

Last Updated: April 5, 2025

By accessing or using the services provided by CARE Psychology, including psychological services provided by registered psychologists and registered provisional psychologists, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). You also acknowledge that you have read, understood, and consented to the practices described in the associated Privacy Policy.

Services Provided

At CARE Psychology, we offer a range of psychological services, including but not limited to:

  • Counseling and Therapy: We provide individual, family, and group therapy, specializing in services for children, teens, adults, and families, including specialized therapies like EMDR and play therapy.

  • Assessments: Psychological assessments for children, teens, and adults, including psycho-educational assessments, mental health evaluations (e.g., ADHD, anxiety), and other assessments.

  • Telepsychology Services: We offer online therapy and assessments for clients who are unable to attend in-person sessions. These services are provided through secure video platforms.

  • Additional Psychological Services: We may offer additional services, such as parent consultation, workshops, and supervision, tailored to meet specific client needs.

All services are delivered by registered psychologists or registered provisional psychologists, adhering to the ethical and professional standards outlined by the College of Alberta Psychologists and other relevant regulatory bodies.

Client Responsibilities

As a client, you agree to the following responsibilities:

  • Provide Accurate Information: It is essential that you provide accurate and complete information regarding your psychological and medical history. This helps us to tailor the services to your needs.

  • Complete Intake and Informed Consent Forms: All clients (including parents/guardians for minors) must complete the intake and informed consent forms before psychological services can begin. This is required to ensure that both you and the therapist have a clear understanding of the services to be provided and any associated risks or benefits.

  • Attend Appointments: Clients are responsible for attending scheduled appointments. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a cancellation fee.

  • Payment of Fees: You are responsible for paying all applicable fees for services rendered. Payments can be processed through insurance where applicable or paid directly to the clinic through E-Transfer or credit card. Please check with your insurer about coverage for psychological services.

Communication with Divorced/Separated Parents

  • Consent Forms: Both parents with custody or guardianship must complete the intake and consent forms for psychological services to begin. This ensures transparency and that both parents are informed and consent to the services.

  • Communication: All communication from CARE Psychology will be directed to both parents unless specified otherwise in a custody order. This includes updates on the child’s psychological services progress.

  • Parent Meetings: We will not meet with a parent individually unless mutually agreed upon or outlined in a custody order. Parent meetings will require the presence of both parents, either in person or virtually.

Fees and Payment Terms

  • Standard Session (50-60 minutes): $235 per session.

  • Appointments Under 60 Minutes: $60 for every 15 minutes (rounded up).

  • Sessions Exceeding 60 Minutes: Booked at the $235 per hour rate, with additional time calculated in 15-minute increments.

  • Additional Services: Form completion, phone calls, emails, letters, and similar tasks will also be charged at the standard appointment rate.

  • Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide 24 hours’ notice. A $120 fee will be charged for cancellations within 24 hours of the session.

  • No-Show Fee: If you fail to attend a scheduled session without prior notice, you will be charged the full session rate for the missed appointment (i.e., $235 for a 50-60 minute session).

  • Direct Billing: We offer direct billing to a variety of insurance providers, including Alberta Blue Cross, Greenshield, Telus eClaims, and others. We also offer direct billing for FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities) and NIHB (Non-Insured Health Benefits), though these require additional information to complete the billing process. You will need to provide further details for us to proceed with these billing services.

Telepsychology Services

For clients choosing telepsychology services (online therapy or assessments), the following conditions apply:

  • You must have a private, secure, and stable internet connection.

  • Both the client and psychologist must be in a quiet, private space during the session to ensure confidentiality.

  • A backup plan will be in place in case of technical issues, such as a phone number to reschedule the session if needed.

  • You will need to sign a separate consent form for telepsychology, which will explain the potential risks and benefits of receiving services remotely.

Social Media Use

  • Engagement with Clients: CARE Psychology does not engage with clients via social media. We request that clients do not follow or friend their therapists on personal social media accounts. This helps maintain clear professional boundaries and ensures the integrity of the therapeutic relationship.

  • Privacy on Social Media: Please be cautious when sharing personal information related to psychological services or your mental health online. Communication through social media is not secure and does not meet our privacy standards.
