WAITLIST ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS FALL 2026
Waitlist for counselling and assessment clients. Accepting new clients for Fall 2026.
Hi, Iβm Dr. Shawna! I am a Registered Psychologist who supports children, youth, and their families through therapy and assessment.
I earned my doctorate in School and Applied Child Psychology from the University of Calgary. I have worked in preschools, schools, community programs, and private practice settings, supporting children, families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams. Across these roles, I have helped children and families better understand emotional well-being, learning needs, and development, while building the skills and confidence needed to thrive in daily life. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of child development, learning, mental health, and the ways children grow and succeed across home, school, and community environments.
My approach to therapy is strengths-based, collaborative, and child-centered. I integrate Play Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), adapting sessions to each childβs developmental needs, interests, and communication style. My priority is to create a warm, supportive space where children feel safe, understood, and empowered to express themselves in ways that feel natural to them.
In addition to therapy, I provide comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational assessments to help families better understand a childβs learning profile, emotional well-being, developmental needs, and areas of strength. I commonly support questions related to learning differences and giftedness, ADHD, autism, intellectual disabilities, anxiety, and mood concerns. My goal is to offer clear and meaningful insights, along with practical recommendations that can support children at home, at school, and in their day-to-day lives.
My training and experience in School and Applied Child Psychology have also provided me with extensive experience helping families understand school-based supports, accommodations, educational planning, and the connections between learning, development, and mental health. I believe that when families have a clear understanding of their childβs unique strengths and needs, they are better equipped to advocate for and support their child's success.
Before becoming a psychologist, I spent many years supporting children in classroom and care environments. These experiences continue to shape my belief in meeting children where they are, moving at their pace, and honoring their strengths and stories.
The values that guide my work are respect, collaboration, gentleness, and curiosity.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, walking my dogs, hiking, riding my horse, and spending time with friends and family.
